Salt Dough Ornaments (with recipe)

As the winter holidays approach, many people get excited about decorating their homes and trees with ornaments. Salt dough ornaments are a popular option for a variety of reasons – they’re easy to make, inexpensive, and customizable to fit any decorating scheme. In this blog post, we’ll share a simple recipe for crafting your own salt dough ornaments at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F/90°C.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Gradually add water, stirring until you form a smooth dough.
  3. Sprinkle flour on a clean work surface and roll out the dough until it’s about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut out your desired shapes. Keep re-rolling the dough and cutting new shapes until you’ve used it all.
  5. Use a straw to make a small hole near the top of each ornament. This is where you’ll thread ribbon or string to hang them up later.
  6. Place the ornaments on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 2-3 hours, or until they’re completely dry and hard.
  7. Once the ornaments have cooled, you can paint or decorate them as you like. Acrylic paints work well, and you can add glitter, sequins, and other embellishments as desired.
  8. To hang the ornaments, thread ribbon or string through the holes you made earlier.

That’s it – your salt dough ornaments are ready to be displayed! You can make these in any shape or size you like, and they make great gifts or keepsakes for loved ones. Happy crafting!
